When I met with my neurosurgeon for the first time, i prepared a binder of information for him with all of my meds, doctors and their contact information. It had a table of Contents. It had a chronological list of events that led me to be in his office. There was a section of lab reports from the previous 9-12 months so he could see any patterns. It had a list of all imaging done in the last couple of years. I had the reports from the radiologists as well as the actual images that he could look at. This was my first surgery, I was 45, and I am an accountant. I was scared, but thought, anything I can put in a spreadsheet and organize, i can handle better. At first the neurosurgeon didn’t want to look at it because he thought he was being asked to read a lot of information. But his nurse said, no, look at this, it has everything you need to know all in one place. You are going to love it. He did love it, it sped our appointment along. He didn’t have to request records to see what had been done. He had the images he could look at right then. Two days later he did surgery on my neck.

My husband has PD and his doctor is fantastic. He is a movement disorder specialist. I have learned, as a caregiver to stop talking so that the specialist can listen to my husband. Its incredible how quickly info can be aquired in order to make different decisions.

When you go to a specialist they have a referral and know why you’re there, though they will ask why you are there. Giving answers to their questions demonstrates your understanding of your problem, your communication skill level, and your demeanor. Let them lead the conversation. They should allow you to ask questions before you leave. It’s really difficult to establish a relationship between the patient and provider in 5 minutes face to face, but you know the important facts need to be said.

Thank you for your advice and I have done just that and the result is that I now will see a dietician as I can not use a drug called Tactus for colestrol. I spoke and advocated for myself

I'm so happy with the Doctors I've researched and chosen! I need to have our personalities mesh together besides them having the best skills for what I need. Found them after a few trials and errors.😊

My son has an appointment with Neurologist soon. He was diagnosed with Brain with Chiari I malformation and thoracic with syriox T3-T10 (likely related to Chiari) with mild cord flattening. Lumbar spine mild degeneration, but more so for a 20 year old. Recommending to see a Neurosurgeon He has to use a walker to walk and in pain. I’m nervous for him. Hoping this can be cured through surgery

Can you audio record appointments? That Definitely would help! There are definitely things that might be said to me that I would forget, especially if I was nervous about including all the information I want to provide this Doctor. If I was writing down notes the whole time, I might not Remember everything.

I’m a little nervous. Tuesday I’m having a procedure for my ET. I like my surgeon. I know the facility. Just waiting and waiting make me nervous. I was only excited when I went for my liver transplant. I guess that there was no time to get nervous.

What I’m seeing now days is people in my clinic are having spine surgeries done, anything from a single level lami to a 3-4 level fusion and aren’t given anything post op for pain? Then they get lectured about their high blood pressure. Where is the line between controlling post op pain and inducing a stroke? I had shoulder surgery two weeks ago and was given nothing post op for pain and was to the point where I was throwing up and hallucinating from the pain. I didn’t go to the er because they don’t treat pain at the er and my docs office didn’t care to call me back or even check on me after my surgery. There is a difference between someone who just had work done, vs someone trying to get high.

Hi Doc, may 15-24th I was very Ill. I went to the ER numerous times where they prescribed me muscle relaxers on multiple occasions throughout those 9 days. The last 4 days I didn’t move from bed not even to pee… that’s when my mom brought me to the ER again in the middle of the night unexpectedly. They pumped my IVs and that hydrated and grew a brain abscess that was 5.6 cm x 2.6cm x2.2 cm. I had surgery on my brain and have a pick line now. My surgery was on may 25th. I had a follow up MRI recently and the abscess is now 3.0cm x 1.6cm x1.8cm. My results came in through mychart but have yet to be reviewed by a care team. Should I be concerned that there is still an abscess?

I had went to the hospital for something year ago they had mentioned they seen small kr malformation but when I mentioned it at my regular doctor visits they just overlook it. I’m not familiar with this, would it be something that’s need to be seen by neurologist
