that "let's tango" and then cut into video ended is the most "to be continue" of Anime ever

If playing feels more like a job, that's a pretty good indicator. I would catch up with the story through Youtube to find out if it's worth getting back into it.

I understand why people dislike Sumeru, but I personally loved it. The quests were great and the desert was such a unique place compared to the usual grassy environments. The lore is amazing as well. The world quests were definitely the best part of Sumeru for me. Their long (and admittedly tedious at times) but they always told interesting stories to me. I do agree that it kinda sucks that to fully explore Sumeru, you gotta do these long world quests. And also not having multi layered map was a hassle. Fontaine is doing a much better way of handling these issues.

Imo, sumeru is a game changer for genshin. Trying to catch up with the story is easy, but catching up with achievements and map exploration is like catching all Pokemons up until the x and y versions.

Honestly, the longer you've been gone the more worth it is to get back into Genshin. It can be much nicer for some to do a lot more at once rather than bits at a time while waiting

I personally loved sumeru a lot, most definitely my favourite region, I loved doing the big world quests because they felt like going on a real adventure and sumeru is the reason I got into lore, i probably have read every single readable material that talks about sumeru lore, in my opinion the writing in sumeru (both in main and side quests) is a lot better than the previous regions and it's only getting better from Fontaine and i also loved exploring the hidden temples in the dessert and solving the puzzles there but I do understand it's not for everyone

It rlly depends on what made you take a break in the first place. If it was the lack of endgame then that very much has not changed. But if you’ve missed the exploration and story aspects of genshin, I still highly recommend coming back as both has drastically improved since 3.0

"Has it changed too much that it doesn't make sense anymore?" fits to Yugioh more than Genshin honestly. If I can come back after a long time of not playing right when 4.0 starts, then so can that person.

I totally understand how draining Sumeru deserts could be for other people, but personally, I loved this region so much. As a Middle Asian, from music to lore and stories, everything feels like home. Zulqarnayn's Gate, Jinns, Eternal Oasis and etc, just like in fairy tails.

I was one of those who dropped off during Sumeru. Not because I hated it but because I got so busy I could not squeeze GI quests & events even at night. Took more than half a year before going back. Personally I love every single region (lore, music, PvE interactions). If I may answer that question, YES it's worth getting back. Just to set your expectations, you'll also explore locations in Fontaine the same way you'll do in Sumeru. 😅

I stopped playing before the chasm came out and got back into it two days before fontaine came out. It was a bit rough at first but I’m genuinely enjoying myself. I think the main thing I had to get through was realizing that if I wasn’t enjoying a quest or area I could just go do something else. So my advice to returning players would be that you don’t have to rush through everything or get everything done in order. Do whatever you want to do in the moment, it’s a game it’s supposed to be fun!

Just do what you want man. I’ve been away from genshin for about 2 years and I just got back because I want to. It’s really that simple

I stopped playing when they released the 2 desert maps and now I came back to play again because Fontaine looks so fun to explore. 😄

I've actually had a Co-op session with a returning player! They said they came back because of the new Fontaine update and I also had my first aquabus ride with them👍

I really liked Sumeru. I think Sumeru might have the strongest cast of characters so far (story wise). And we got to meet Dottore!! x) I get people burning out from a game but Sumeru was by no means a weak area. So it's strange to see that so many people dropped it. But if they are interested to come explore Fontaine, I think they should just try it again. It's a free game you can delete again if you still don't like it.

i still played daily but never even touched sumeru. Fontaine however ignites back my enthusiasm to explore and why I actually like playing genshin. Sumeru can be ignored imho, too much of a hassle
