How eating MORE can put you in a calorie deficit and lead to weight loss ā¬†ļø

The debate as to whether calories in vs calories out really matters for weight loss rages on in the fitness community. But the truth is that the arguments on both sides are being oversimplified.

You can not defy the laws of physicsā€”you do have to be in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. But the ā€˜calories outā€™ side of the equation is a lot more complex than people give it credit for. It can be influenced by MANY factors including the ā€˜calorie inā€™ side of the equation.

In some cases, if you add to the ā€˜calories inā€™ side, the ā€˜calories outā€™ side increases even more.

As such, some people lose weight when they INCREASE calories.

This is the main principle behind why many people lose weight while reverse dieting.

This is why I lose weight when I eat lunch vs skipping it! It makes sense now! In case anyone is curious, I eat a small breakfast, small lunch and no supper. But, I do allow myself homemade popsicles in the evening after a 3 mile walk. I also reduce stress and self care as much as possible. Staying hydrated has helped a lot. Good luck everyone!

Eat when you are hungry don't when you're full. Go for a walk. Tada

Maybe technically true is some cases but this is not something you should be recommending. Do you think a sudden and significant increase in BMR and NEAT is good for you? Those calories will be burned by hyper active digestive system, cardiovascular and aerobic systems which could lead to significant health issues. Just stay in a small calorie deficit by reducing your intake or increasing your output, in a balance that suits your body and lifestyle and is sustainable over the long term. It's not that complicated. (Not a doctor)

Basically if you dont eat a nutritious meal you feel tired and sluggish so you might move less and burn less fuel. That's why it's often recommended to just est 3 meals a day ( breakfast, lunch, dinner ) to have that energy to move around the day.

I would like to try but it is too scary. ā€œYour metabolism can ā€œsometimesā€ increase faster than your calorie intake. I need this guaranteed lol

REQUEST: Can you do a video about creating a deficit with increasing exercise instead of decreasing calories? I always fail when I try to eat too low. My "happy" spot is around 2200 calories. I'm 5'4", female and 145 lbs. I do moderate home workouts 5X a week. I want to lose 20 lbs. And I hate being hungry, lol.

Question, how does one know if your metabolism has adapted? I know this is meant to be a short, is there a longer video you've done explaining how this works?

Soooo, this sounds like what happened to me. Weight loss has been a long journey of figuring out what my body wants. Before weight loss, I was hardly ever hungry. Then, I started my weight loss journey and keeping track of calories. I felt like while losing weight I was eating a bunch more calories, but healthier calories. I felt like I was always full and it was too much, but thr calorie counter app and several others told me what my calorie intake should be based on my age, weight, height, and, exercise. I didn't get much results at first. My weight was staying the same or slightly increasing, but all of a sudden, I get a lot more hungry all the time and many days I lose anywhere between half a pound to a a pound. I can even lose weight on days I go way over what I was supposed to and completely pig out. I'm pretty sure I increased my metabolism and that wasn't my goal and I didn't know I could do that, but it's cool.

Is there a formula to predict when one could reach a plateau? Alternatively, what do you think of dieting inconsistently e.g. eat more on the days you work out and eat less when you don't?

I have a question ā€” so I am a 17 year old female who weighs about 133 pounds trying to lose weight. Iā€™ve been trying to lose weight for a few months and trying to do it the healthiest way possible so that I am both satiated and accomplishing the goals I want. Just this week I started counting my calorie intake. I workout almost everyday. Iā€™ll do weight lifting and Iā€™ll also run a mile. I try to eat anywhere from 1,000-1,200 calories a day. Is this too little? Will I still lose weight if I increase this?
