I used to be a “vine composer” back in the days of vine. 6 second compositions. As for current composers, mannfish and zheanna come to mind. Both do microtonal short form compositions that do perform well on the platforms they upload to

i think the genius of our time is clearly jacob collier. his genre is a dizzying blend of many but to my mind the gifts that we admire in greats like bach, mozart or richard strauss are those that collier clearly has (minus a true dedication to counterpoint which is another topic) that ear wedded to that harmonic imagination are the truer heir to what those masters were up to than many who may seem more stylisticly similar. you can find vids on youtube, some of them short where he improvises live with a mastery of harmony that simply cant be faked. and it is clear he could as easily do 30 other versions going in entirely different directions just as effortlessly.

Back in 1980, The Residents had the brilliant idea of releasing an album of 40 one-minute songs, aptly titled "Commercial Album". The concept was, since no radio would play their music, they bought ad spots and had the radios play their songs as commercials. Their music might not say much to contemporary composers, but they were a brilliant band who always found clever ways to get their music out in the open, while keeping their artistic integrity.

This reminds me of the video of Morton Feldman telling Elliott Carter that the world doesn't need more twenty-minute pieces — it needs more one-movement hour-and-a-half pieces. Then they both laugh at how neither would be performed or heard

Bill Wurtz excelled at this on vine 10 years ago, but his style and expressive preoccupations evolved since Edit I read the comment about Ichika Nito and I agree even if I consider him more of a virtuoso performer/composer

One minute piece for Instagram.. like the Minutemen? Maybe I’ll attempt one, since I can’t seem compose a coherent 3:00 one …

I had this silly idea once to write a miniature cycle for orchestra full of pieces you can put as background music for tiktok posts 😂 Though I did once compose a Kevin MacLeod parody for one of my pieces

If you haven't, I implore you to check out Ben Nobuto. They're imo a Modern Classical response to Bill Wurtz

There's one guy I've seen on Instagram, though I don't remember his name, who posts himself playing his own compositions on the piano, usually wearing a long overcoat, which gives him a distinctive look. He has managed to amass a significant following doing that.

I received a commission for orchestra last year because of another piece I posted on YouTube.

So far the best song I know under a minute is Micachu’s ‘Sweetheart’. It is much harder to write a minute masterpiece then a 20 minute masterpiece

A lot of Samuel's videos have the subtext "Society is jumping off a bridge", whereas the explicit message is "What are YOU doing to ensure a spot in line"

Short 5-10 minute pieces for YouTube . . . Instagram and TikTok maybe . . . What about “looping”? Lots of individuals are performing publicly and creating an audience utilizing electronics to emulate an orchestral sound. . . .😎
