The problem is, people who can't cover a $500 emergency are usually up to their eyebrows in debt, and are often behind on bills and rent, and struggle to afford gas and food, because they have income that's simply too low to cover expenses, and are often working more than one low-paying job, so their maneuvering ability is very low. Telling them to save in gold is not very useful because they don't have any disposable income to save, they have a negative income/expenses balance.

One of the folks in this world who knows me personally and knows I buy gold used to tease me for buying it. Then he saw how useful it was for me when I needed cash, since then he hasn't said anything. It's kind of fun when your approach is validated

Its very expensive to live in the US. Even with careful saving its very difficult to save up to buy a gold coin. Most people have never held a gold coin in their hand. People might agree that its smart to buy gold, but never have the opportunity to do so. Every gold coin that you buy is a blessing. Not an option for most of us.

There IS a psychological change that occurs when you save in gold vs digital cash or physical cash. I find I respect my gold savings more, not as a hobbyist, it is something more. Something, old. Idk. But the reason to sell my gold would have to be significant. Have just broke through my first 3 ounces, am at 3 ounces and a tenth.

Even if you dont stack for investment, it's really pleasurable to the eyes to collect precious metals. I personally only started with 10 oz silver bars, I have 10 now. Might try to get 100oz in silver rounds, then gonna start stacking some gold coins
