Built mine in the cave entrance to the lava zone in the Bulb zone. I am a mad lad, I was so proud of it. I loved going into the observatory and looking up to see the lights on the ceiling of the cave at the start of every gaming session, it was glorious!

My base on most my Subnautica worlds is in the grassy plateau. Sure it could be basic, but it's right next to four different biomes at least the one building next to the dunes, blood kelp, sparse reef, and jelly shroom

Had my main base in the safe shallows near the lifepod and built it super early on, then built smaller-scale but still significant outposts in pretty much every biome so I could have scanner rooms mark resources and dangerous creatures for me almost anywhere and moonpools to repair my small vehicles without using any repair tool power (before I got ion batteries and stopped giving a shit lmao). Even sort of built a long narrow one right up against the Aurora so I could track reapers on my approach to whatever area in there I needed to reach.
With this approach I was basically never grabbed by a reaper on my first playthrough. EVER. Once I had the Cyclops with the energy shield and the Prawn I didnโt give a damn about most leviathans except the sea dragons.

sparse reef is my personal favourite, pretty much all needed resources around, entrance to lost river, no enemies, the only bad thing is that you can get energy only by bioreactor, but you can still build a tower to surface to get sun energy

In my first playthrough, I built my base in Safe shallows right next to my life pod. I've got so used to it that i memorized where specific biomes are and how exactly to get to them the fastest way.
Now whenever I start a new game I build my base at the exact same spot like in my first playthrough, if I try it somewhere else I either lose the base or get disoriented af!
