I enjoy food for my grandma, who never felt like she was good enough because she wasnt happy the number on the scale. On hospice in her last week of life, she told my mom "at least I'm finally skinny" which broke my heart. Every time I have a particularly good meal I wish I could share it with her.

My grandmother had an eating disorder. She’d have like severe anxiety if she didn’t have a piece of food in each hand at all times, if the fridge and cabinet were not so full you couldn’t fit anything else in it, she’d be afraid she’d starve.
As a result she bought a lot of cheap food to fill the space, went to multiple food banks as often as they would let her. Ate expired foods a lot, would cry when we had to throw away sour milk.
she had a lot of health issues related to her eating problem. Including diabetes, kidney disease, a section of her intestines died and had to be removed. And so much more.
but food was her only joy in life. If she lived to be 80 I’m sure she would have regretted eating just -anything she wanted. she certainly regretted it when she died at 76, when her entire body just shut down.
I’m not saying don’t eat. but I am saying food is medicine. what you put in your body , and what you don’t put in, dictates the quality of your life. Intuitive eating is great, but only if you do not have disordered eating. I’m sure grandma thought she was eating intuitively. I’m much more careful about what I eat, and what I splurge on as a treat to myself now. Her last few years were just pure suffering.

I love how comforting this is supposed to be, but I've heard my 90+ old great grandma say how she needs to lay off the sugar becuase all thr other ladies at the nursing home are so thin :(
Made me sad to hear. I'm so glad body postivety will be passed to the next generations, instead of the things the older generations had to hear🫶

i feel that as you grow older, you come to understand yourself, I'm not ashamed of starving myself when i was younger, or glad that I did, but sometimes you listen to what your brain does, and as someone with an ed and anxiety, as a child i didnt understand that so i just listened, but now i do and i can eat more

I really needed to see this today. I was considering not eating, until I got too hungry. I felt guilty and now I’m eating, but I saw your short. Doesn’t take away from my guilt, but it makes it a little bit better. Thank you.
