Biggest problem with Sony in my experience, is that they tend to drop support for their devices much sooner than other companies.

Xperia PRO-I - professional Xperia 1 - flagship Xperia 5 - premium mid-range Xperia 10 - mid-range Xperia Ace - budget The Xperia 5 series' role was supposed to be everything that Marques said.

I left Sony for Samsung and immediately regretted it after spending a lot...I can't use cameras that lack good manual control...the pictures are never what am going for even in pro mode they are trash...yes I tried the iPhone and they too are trash due to the lack of control that Sony lets me have...YOU HAVE TO USE THE SONY before you judge it by this video...this video doesn't do the Sony any GOOD. trust me

I hope Sony doesn't stop making these. Photographers and videographers love these phones. Edit: I shoot on a Canon M50 and an iPhone 13 pro. Tried the Xperia 1 IV in store and thought it was cool, didn't have 1300 bucks to spare tho, so I understand everyone's arguments about buying it.

Man, Sony phones live in my heart and head rent-free. My first smartphone was a Sony phone, and not even a flagship. It was a budget phone, and I loved the fact it could keep up with all my tasks until its android version was too old to get updates for apps and stuff. Plus, I accidentally dropped it from the fifth floor, so it died a fighter. I really loved how personal it could get if you used a phone for a while—after two years out of five we had together, I knew everything about it. If something did not work or happened, I knew how to fix it or what was happening. I knew all the quirks and the ways around them. When they cut down their budget segment I was a student who couldn't afford buying his own phones, then, they holed up in their flagship segment releasing only flagship for niche price. I still wish for them to make a comeback and take over the phone sector. Love Sony <3

Spot on! As a owner of many Xerpia phones over the last 10 years or so, I find it very difficult to support the brand in the last few years because of the reasons you've mentioned, despite me knowing they are an amazing product that stands out from the rest, they just need to even out their offering a little more and launch it properly and they'll be great again.

From a Japanese perspective... Japanese 3 major cell phone carrier has "Spring Collection" and "Autumn Collection," and I think it might be one of the factors for long waiting period; you just have to know which cycle your desired phone is on. Many of the Japanese companies, not limited to smart phone makers, are so fixed on the domestic market first. In this regard, the Japanese car makers have adjusted well for the motor shows to compete with the world stage, but then EV came along and they are well behind again. I had to get a new phone last year, and my phone's spec sheet wasn't even complete, yet the phone carriers were saying "Reserve the Phone" before the going into the market day, and in my case, even on the day the phone was going to the market... I had to depend on phone case maker (my phone's spec sheet was missing the thickness lol) Japan is a tad bit weird place, and it seems smart phone makers can't let go of the golden era of flip phones we had here in Japan. I believe SONY is the only Japanese smart phone maker which sells worldwide? I think SONY doesn't know what the worldwide users want...

can you do a video comparing the pro photos vs the auto photos on this phone? It would be cool to see how much "performance" is being left on the table.

I want to buy that phone you've described! The narrow body, 3.5 mm, IP68, no holes in screen, good camera which works as good as Google's. If it would allow to move clock back to the top right corner - I would pay extra $100 right now.

Loved the hell out of the z3 and z5, loved the compact versions. Loved the phone colors, features, size and no bloatware. Bring it back!

For this year's blind smartphone camera test you should have two Xperia one V's in the bracket; one on auto mode and one where you manually adjust image settings to fine tune the 'ideal' picture. Would be interesting to see how a well tuned/adjusted sony phone can compete with the pixel, iphone, and samsung flagships

Bro, thank you for being our voice. We really don't want companies like Sony to die and I hope your words can put some sense into their minds. (which I know is very tough after living in Japan for 5 years)

I had a SONY Xpreria V1 with verizon way back in the day. I loved that phone the dedicated camera button, it was one of the first water resistant phones out, it had a lot of great features. But it wasn't supported at all by SONY. I remember my biggest issue with it was that you couldn't talk on the phone and browse the web simultaneously. I also loved the feel of the phone.

this is EXACTLY what i have been thinking about xperia phones for YEARS and finally someone, like MKBHD with a huge audience said this, hopefully Sony listens. Give the Xperia the PS5 marketing treatment or something. Xperia phones are still rather popular in sweden still!

If Sony wants to compete, remember 3 things 1. Reasonable price 2. Reduce minor bugs 3. Sack the marketing team (No one try to introduce the product and release it after 2 month when everybody’s excitement is over) I never used Sony phone, but I am really glad of their keeping 3.5mm and sd card, and like their design aesthetics. In this iPhone and Galaxy market, we need a competitor like Xperia. Please keep up

I came for a review of the Xperia 1 V. I got a TED talk about Porsche and a rant of what Sony should make as a phone. Thanks... I think.

Rewatching this now and it's crazy that Sony implemented ALMOST every point in this video onto their Sony Xperia 5V device. The only deviation was price. Sony is charging around 900-1000 for the 5V instead of the 700-800 dollar range MKBHD suggested.
