There is a "JU" in a circle on the stem. This is a straight, smooth billiard and smokes great, but the JU stamp contradicts your statement. That is a James Upshall graded pipe, a P. But, it appears Tilshead pipes do have the JU (I have seen some on the web that did not). James Upshall graded pipes have the James Upshall stamp in a oblong oval.

When trying to diagnose a problem with guitar electronics, the first place to look is the switch itself. Sometimes the switch has gotten corroded or developed a layer of gunk. To loosen it, spray the contact with contact cleaner and move it back and forth. If the switch pops, then it may be sanded with 400-grit sandpaper.

Mr. 'Motty' Ezrati has been the owner of the James Upshall brand for at least two decades. Last I heard, Barry Jones is still turning bowls out on the plains with Ezrati taking care of the business end. He has very strong and rather unusual views on how to do that, which might explain some of the quirks mentioned above.

Mar 4, 2021. #16. . The thing with Gibson models: you need to be aware of and ok with the fragile headstock drama risk. Most fractures happen during shipping, like when you try selling the guitar. Google 'guitar broken headstock' to see and understand the issue. Just know that going in.

And, yes, that V is a rip off just like all other V's. Gibson was definitely the original designer of the V model. The real message I think Gibson is trying to put out is : "We are not going to be a push over like in the past". It is also good publicity, I think. IMO there is probably more variation from unit to unit rather than year to year...andI have owned 2 identical model guitars even to the color, from the same factory, same year and less than a month apart that were VERY different...even much different playability and sound.
