I Regret Trying Kyokushin Karate. By Jesse Enkamp on 13 April 2023. I'm training karate with a Kyokushin legend! This is a Japanese martial art known for it's brutal sparring. Let's see if I survive a class with Sensei Brian Fitkin - direct student of Mas Oyama himself. Big thanks to William "The Swedish Ninja" Ustav for filming.

My first day in Kyokushin was this simple combination (with two variations) repeated until I could barely walk: 1: Chudan kizami-zuki, chudan gyaku-zuki, gyaku gedan mawashi-geri. 2: Chudan kizami-zuki, chudan gyaku-zuki, kizami / mae-ashi gedan mawashi-geri. We drilled for an hour. Those with belts above white sparred.

So I started Kyokushin Karate last week. And while it's been ok so far, I'm beginning to wonder if this is the right karate for me. For some context, my reasons for practicing martial arts are general purpose. Meaning self defense, cool hobby, cultural experience, fitness, and all that good stuff. So I'm not solely concerned about fighting

Unfortunately, it seemed like the established local Kyokushin dojo had since closed down. A bit about me - I'm a nidan with about 20 years of experience and I've trained in 3 states on the east coast: Shihan Sakataka (World Oyama Karate, NJ), Sensei Iwata (Iwata Dojo, NYC) and Sensei Nick Toma (Capital Kyokushin, Washington DC).

Kyokushin Karate was founded by Sosai Masutatsu Oyama who was born on 27th July 1923, in a village in South Korea. From an early age, he started training in the art of Chinese Kenpo and the "Eighteen Hands form". It was in 1938 that Oyama left for Japan to join an aviation school to become a pilot.

It worked! For fresh blood stains, the COLDEST water possible, or even rubbing with an ice cube, plus either old school bar-type laundry soap (eg sunlight bars), or a few drops of dish soap. Much easier within a few hours, but with a little more work, will take out set in stains too. No hot water ever thought.

But yeah, Kyokushin is all about sweating it out, and embracing the tough gruelling training in the company of like minded maniacs. It's going to suck, but you need to love how it sucks. It'll be weird and awkward at first, but push through it, and in a few classes, if you're at the right spot, you'll start to see the fun.

Regret . I've been practicing karate kyokushin for 5 years now. I started in 7th grade and now I'm gonna be 12th. ... Edit: Ty for the great responses, they really made me rethink the whole situation, even encouraged me to try even harder because as some of the comments said "stop looking for excuses just practice". Thanks for reading. Tl;dr: I had no respect for karate until I tried a Kyokushin class myself. Kyokushin is brutal and completely understated in my view. On par with Muay Thai training in Thailand and MMA training, currently training with the head of the Japanese national team. 27 Share.

Train in Shotokan (or even Goju-Ryu) but spar and compete in a variety of competitive formats - point karate, American kickboxing, and even Kyokushin-style full-contact rules. Once you're reasonably proficient in martial arts, like first or second dan in karate (or ~5 years of consistent training at a credible institution), you'll be well

But when it comes to comparing karate styles, kyokushin should be way more famous, because it's the most usable style for self defense and street fighting. Or Kudo (which is on the border between MMA and karate). Germany for example doesn't even have a single Kudo Dojo. ... Trying to get people in their 20s is hard because they usually don't

Hello, all. I am currently a Purple Belt (4th Kyu) in Wado Ryu Karate, but I don't think it's doing the right thing. I really didn't know what martial art to choose in the first place. I hear a lot of good stuff about Kyokushin and MMA, but I don't know how different it would be. I'm looking for something brutal and realistic for the real world.

Karate is about CONTROL. Yes, karate looks cool, but if your only motivation for joining Karate is to "look cool," you need to re-evaluate your motives. Karate is a martial art, and the primary objective of martial arts is to make you more dangerous, to make you capable of creating extreme violence if you need to.

I recently moved to San Diego and after realizing that my preferred hard style of Karate - Kyokushin - was not available here, After some heartening encouragement from my Sensei, I decided to establish a dojo here in San Diego, specifically in the North County area (Poway): San Diego Kyokushin Karate Dojo.
