BioShock is my all time favorite game, but it has very little thalassophobia vibes. Just the beginning moments of the game and a few cutscenes are kinda spooky in terms of fear of the ocean. In BioShock 2, your character does go into the ocean floor area, but it's well lit and beautiful instead of dark, mysterious and spooky.

Gather resources (titanium, quartz). Craft the essentials and a few tools (ESPECIALLY the scanner, knife, and seaglide), then make a habitat builder so that you can establish a home base (room module recommended; also try to add a small locker inside for convenience). After all that is done, get to the floating island asap.

Make a Scanner room and explore with the cameras. If the zone is safe, get out and swim. All the small/medium creatures make some scream when attack, dodge and use the knife. For the biggest creatures, use repulsor cannon, seamoth perimeter defense, stasis rifle or creature decoy.

Discussion. For a while, I've had pretty bad thalassophobia. I'm piss scared of open water, and I noticed this when playing games like ARK. Anyways, fast forward a few months later and Subnautica is on a 70% discount on steam. So I went 'screw it', and bought the game, thinking it would help 'cure' my thalassophobia. (it didn't)

Thalassophobia is an intense and persistent fear of the sea or of sea travel. Thalassophobia can include fear of being in large bodies of water, fear of the vast emptiness of the sea, of sea waves, and fear of distance from land. This game is atmospheric, it's moody, it's you, alone, on a hostile alien world full of wildlife that either doesn't

Yes, but just a fear of open water is not thalassophobia. A phobia is an irrational fear. Some people with thalassophobia can even feel like anxious or a sense of impending doom when they're taking a bath in the safety of their house. It's irrational. If op had thalassophobia the thought of playing a game like Subnautica would be incapacitating.

Zero threats, the only fear is from your own mind. I consider this the halfway between ABZŪ and Subnautica, because there's still the massive open waters on edges of the map (and some maps are very open ocean). Knowing you are safe and it is impossible to be in danger is what allows me to slowly make progress. Definitely worth the play.

In the end, it's really up to you. Like I said, I haven't played Subnautica yet, but Soma does have some segments that take place in the open abyss, and they do get both claustrophobic and agoraphobic at the same time; the former because the world is DARK, and the latter because of the sense of scale around you.

It seems almost daily now that there is a post asking either if they should play Subnautica or Below Zero first, or asking which one is better. These topics are almost daily, have been talked to death, and always exact have the same answers. Let me know what you all think. lol okay guys, good one

Yeah subnautica (because this is on r/subnautica) never gave me any fear of deep water it made me want to explore more now I know some people who genuinely have phobias but then I also know people who say hey I have a phobia of this thing when they really don't. And I know they're lying because the people I know who genuinely have phobias

The hardmode materials can be sold by the operator npc from alchemistnpc mod, but idk if you'll consider that cheating. These materials are only really used for weapons and aren't necessary for progression. The scoria ore doesn't need to be mined at all. You can get scoria bars from farming ravager, removing another reason to go down there.
