I live in liege, and first of all, no, they will not accept that you want to commute from Brussels. Somebody should have told you the inherent risks of constant strikes plaging public transportation. I myself had a hard time finding a job for a long time because I don't have a driver's license or a car.

Its contribution to the Belgian psyche is this typical Liégeois trait of not caring for what other people think of you, as long as they leave you alone-something that defines present-day Belgium. Ah Liège, it's been already 8 years that I left my hometown but I still miss you so much! Unfortunately prejudice are strong on the other sides of the borders but truly Liège is a real old gem filled with wonderful people, great food, pretty streets & top museum. I don't understand why Belgians don't like Belgium, nice looking country.

Not that they should have keyed your car, but I can understand the frustration. I feel mad when I see all the tourists in Luxembourg city. Yesterday afternoon (a Tuesday!) the city was full. Don't tell me those people all live here. People want to feel safe and we can't if we keep seeing people break the rules.
