Silage Bag users, how do you load feed out of bag? - AgTalk

We use a Quicke Multibenne on a backhoe loader. Its easy to make a big mess especially if it gets wet. We try to grab a full load and then pull it away and not loosen what we dont pick up. When we first started we placed big square hay bales on the sides before cutting the bag, to make like a bunker and then mooved them along the bag as we used it.

Thanks Cobb, In that case you will need a supplement or some DDGs to go with the hay and silage to get enough protein to support gains. I just did a rough ration, and if the hay is 7% protein you could feed the corn silage and balage 50/50 (all they'll eat) plus 5# of DDGs and .5-.75# of a balancer to support 2.25# of daily gain.

It will go thru 102k of silage per month and pays out better than selling it at high point once a year. $564/L vs the highest I've seen of $353/L. I currently make over $53k a month from just the silage in the BGA. If you have cows or pigs you can send slurry and manure to it as well and make over $13k per month per input.

2. Assess the crop. For most cereal crops, the best time to cut is when they are at the soft-dough stage. The majority of the plant should still be green, but with a bit of yellowish tinge, especially on the heads of the plant. To test crop stage, squeeze a random kernel between your fingers to see how soft it is.

To Bale or Not To Bale, That is the Silage Question

Baling with a higher moisture content also reduces leaf loss and gives producers high-quality protein. For round bale silage, producers should aim for between 50% and 65% moisture, similar to 60%

We feed whole grains, alfalfa and kelp right now with occasional tree hay, but they are craving grass. With a combination of silage making, grass hay cut with a scythe and tree hay, we have all the forage bases covered. Add mangel beets and carrots and rabbits have nutritious winter feed without any external inputs.

5. Bale a tight dense bale to reduce air (oxygen) inside the bale. 6. Wrap bales in plastic within two hours to exclude oxygen and reduce heat damage. 7. Wrap bales with at least a 6-mil thickness of plastic (8-mil is better), using 50 percent overlap and 50 to 55 percent stretch. 8.

Improve DM intakes - by an average of 5%. Most importantly, MTD/1-treated silage has also been shown to improve milk yield by an average of an extra 1.2L/cow/day (15 trials, various forages). If you assume 200 days of feeding silage, based on that extra 1.2L of milk produced per cow per day, that's an extra 240L.

How To Make Silage For Your Farm - Mother Farmland

The vital process behind silage production is anaerobic fermentation by microorganisms. Microbes are naturally present in the plant material, and they engage in a remarkable operation. They essentially eat up the sugars present in the plant material and produce lactic acid as a by-product of their activity.

We also fill 3 9*200 bags that my cousin try's to feed up during the winter to lessen the mud problem. Put up your silage a little on the dry side 50-55% and you won't have any problems. You should be able to get around 500 tons. Here a silo lasts about 4 months. Once you get them going, we go up once a week to change doors and that's

There are two methods of making silage. Method 1. The grass is cut and then wrapped in plastic for storage. Silage wrap is made of low-density polyethylene, a recyclable plastic. Method 2. Once the grass is cut with a mower, it is then the job of the forage harvester to pick up and chop the grass before blowing it into a trailer which is

If the rainfall goes over your cut off points, stop harvesting and cover the clamp. No one will thank you, as it's the least popular job in the world but it's vital to cover the ensiled crop to maintain the dry

We use the largest (5-6") screen size on our tub grinder and aim for around 3/4" to 1 1/4" chop length when we put up silage. Our nutritionist helps us make sure there is enough of the different particle sizes in our ration, uses a "Penn state shaker box" to see how much is in each particle size level, aim for at least 10-20% in the highest size.

I personally like the agbagger or Kelly Ryan bagger best for getting most feed in a bag. Size depends on feeding rate how many head. They make 8,9,10,12and 14 foot machines. For a small operation I recommend a 8 foot that way there is least amount of spoilage. We make 6 to 7 bags a year for ourselves. We also use silage inoculant on everything.

Upnorth, I round bale and wrap grass for silage and use them for the walls. Chop the corn and pack it between the bales just like a pit. Tried round baling wet corn silage and damm near killed the baler. 4x5 bale would be around 2500 pounds. Plus the cows wasted most of it. Better off chopping it with corn.

We still use a single bag on a yard where most of the cows are. It works well because as stated, there is little to no shrink and we only feed 2-3k a day. The problem with bags if you don't use a custom guy or feed much is -high priced bag per ton. It is 4 dollars a ton just in plastic. 12-14 years you are half way to a pad. -slow to fill.

I didn't like it at first, but once I got my keybinds right I loved it. I just like the 0 turn radius, but I have thrown lots of products by using it. I will probably be stacking more trailers when I get enough money to just leave stacked ones around, then I can just hook up and go when I want to sell.

Viewing a thread - Any thoughts on setting up a silage pile? - AgTalk

I wouldn't mess with bales. We fill a bunker and make 5 other piles every year. The other piles are whatever size the hay crop happens to be. We make progressive wedges, meaning you don't pull wagons over the pile. Just make sure it's covered good with dirt and tires. The plastic shouldn't be able to move at all with the wind.

Share. zanfar. • 1 yr. ago. Yes, but not nearly as profitable as in-game. For example, "10th Generation Dairyman" (YouTube) farms their own corn silage and "haylage". Even with rented farmland and contracting out the silage harvesting, they save money on feed for their herd.

I go and dump those bales directly to the silo fermenter. I do about $300k-$500k per day this way. I do also fill it up with corn chaff during the corn season, which you can cut up to 2 days before corn harvest and get the same yield. Then I set up for grass on those same fields.
