The M8 feels better and takes very good shots, but the Nex-7 is a hard combination to beat, especially with Leica lenses. One thing the M8 does better than any other camera I know about (its parlor trick) is that you . can convert it instantly to a great infrared camera merely by screwing an infrared filter (I like the Leica IR filter) onto the

Leica M8: Ethical? Waterproof? And other questions

The sensor is already almost five years old. According to the latest from Leica, there will be no further upgrades to the M8/8.2 platform. Do you think you will be happy in 10 years with still using the camera when your kid's P&S will shoot noiseless images at ISO 25,000 and a resolution of 100 megapixels.<br>.

The world's first digital rangefinder is the Epson R-D1 introduced in 2004. The M8 features a 10.3 megapixel sensor made by Kodak. The sensor is the model KAF-10500. The sensor is an APS-H sensor with a crop factor of 1.3x. The M8 has a shutter speed of 1/8 to 1/8000 and has aperture priority and manual mode.

M8 owner since 2010, still shoot it as a primary camera. The initial batches of M8s had a few issues, most advise avoiding M8s with the serial numbers 310xxxx. Many also report that Leica has fixed these. My M8's shutter failed after 30,000 actuations, which was subsequently replaced by Leica Solms within a month.

Image Quality. DNG files from the M8's 10MP APS-H (2/3rds full-frame, 1.33x crop factor) CCD sensor are sharp and detailed. There is a unique digital 'grain' to this sensor that is pleasantly reminiscent of film. Apparently the output from the M8 was modeled on Kodachrome slide film.

Increasing corner performance. If the problem of oblique light rays is greater the further toward the edges and corners of the sensor, one way to solve this is to make the sensor smaller than the full frame 24x36mm standard frame size of 35mm film. As mentioned the Leica M8 uses a 1.3x crop 27x18mm sensor.

The M8.2 has a quieter (not really) shutter with a 1/4000th max shutter speed. There is a half stop between each speeds. The shutter dial is so satisfying to turn. There is also an "A" mode for Aperture Priority. After using the M8, to use an older film M is a bit confusing as the shutter speed dial is reversed.

At the time of its release, the M8 was hamstrung by Leica's decision to support 8-bit DNGs as opposed to the 14-bit RAWs that the camera was capable of. Leica claims that this decision was due to a lack of perceived difference between the file types. In my own experience, I find that the RAWs are more malleable in post processing but YMMV.

For the same money I could buy a modern offering from Canon or Sony that would blow the M8 out of the water in every single department. ... It won't come as any surprise that Leica glass is just as expensive as the Leica bodies. With that in mind, I wanted a wider field of view than what the Canon 50mm was giving me (with it's 1.33x crop on the

Hot mess: Remembering the Leica M8 - Digital Photography Review

Compared to Leica's long-serving flagship film rangefinder (M7, left) the M8 was slightly bigger, heavier and noticeably cleaner in terms of design, thanks to the omission of the film wind and rewind levers. For a lot of people, rangefinder shooting is a pain, but if you love it, you love it.

The M8 is my digital Leica backup body for the M240 but acts as a half way mark between modern digital photos and my analog photography. If a want the real filmic look or want to create a photo of interest to me I shoot film with the Leica M6 (M3's, M2), Hasselblad 501 and other camera brands.

Does anyone shoot with a Leica M8 digital camera?

Location: New Orleans, LA. To answer the lens question: yes, apparently the crop factor on the sensor is 1.33x, meaning that a 28mm on an M8.2 yields a 35mm lens equivalent on a standard 35mm camera. 35 is a little wide for normal use, 50mm being more the norm, but you know that already. The M8 and M8.2 are still my 2nd favorite digital camera ever (the M8 and M8.2 are really the same as far as operation and IQ) with the M9 being #1. It's not all about the image quality with these cameras but more about the "usability factor" AND the quality! Using an M, any M, is just a rewarding experience and yes, with plenty of M8's

Learning to See Again With the Leica M8. I started shooting with a pseudo-rangefinder camera, the Fuji X-Pro1, in 2013, and shed the weight and bulk of my DSLR's forever. I love and still use the X-Pro1, but I've wanted a Leica M6 rangefinder for over 20 years. The problem is, the M6 uses film. Film is wonderful, but it's no longer

Now if I blow that same scan up to 16×20, given the 15 inch viewing standard, the print isn't going to be acceptable. ... Likewise a 10 mg Leica M8 captures 3872 x 2592 pixel. Take the longer dimension of 3872 pixels and divide by the optimal 240 PPI, which equals a 16 inch print, which should look sharp when viewed at about 15 inches or

Help. Is my sensor scratched? - Leica M8 / Leica M8.2 - Leica Forum

To me it all just looks like gunk that needs cleaning off and if your swabs don't manage it then, as Bob advised, have it cleaned by a Leica specialist. I had similar marks when I bought my first M8 new and the cause was a little surplus lubricant in the shutter being flung around during activation.
