Sitting by the ocean was a fitting place to finish reading “The Fighting Bob” written by author (and reenacting friend of mine) Michael Staton about the history of the USS Evans. Michael’s father served aboard the ship during the war, and his personal connection to the ship and those who served on it certainly comes through in his writing. I was impressed by the level of detail included in the book, from the dates and times of events, to wartime photos of the ship and her crew, and even the names and units of some of the Kamikaze pilots who attacked the ship. This was the perfect honeymoon read for a history nerd like myself.
Many US soldiers fighting in Normandy during WWII found that their khaki colored jackets did not blend in well with the dark foliage around them. How did some soldiers combat this?
Which of these is NOT a reason why many US soldiers hated the Assault Vests that they were issued for the D-Day invasion?
Many US soldiers in WWII didn't wear their helmet straps properly because they thought the strap could break their neck if they were near an explosion. How did the Army try to combat this?

Which of these was NOT an issue that US paratroopers experienced while trying to use British "Leg Bags" on D-Day
This was the first WWII re-enactment I ever recorded from my point of view, and it's still one of my favorites! (Mostly because I got to use a full auto M1 Thompson. Who wouldn't love that?) I didn't have a helmet camera yet when I made this, so the whole battle was filmed by my iPhone which was sticking out of my jacket pocket. Oh how times have changed haha.
I recently had the opportunity to go on the Milsurp HQ podcast to chat a bit about WWII re-enacting. I had a great time explaining how I got involved in the hobby and how others can do the same. Go check out the episode and let me know what you think!
