Only a year after the assassination, the Southwestern Historical Wax Museum in Dallas at Fair Park displayed the Kennedy assassination dioramas. Though the Museum burned down, the Sixth Floor Museum has an original brochure and photo postcards as well as some rare color film taken by the Dallas NBC affiliate, WBAP-TV in its collection. #history #collections #waxmuseum

Last Friday the audio of our live streamed Living History with Gretchen Coben was having problems, so we're loading this version early for everyone. An interview with Gretchen Coben, a social worker at the Old Red Courthouse in Dealey Plaza from 1962-1965. Coben observed the Kennedy motorcade and witnessed part of the assassination from the second-floor balcony of courthouse on November 22, 1963.

Our Living History series featuring various eyewitnesses that appear in our current seventh floor exhibition Two Days in Texas occurs every last Friday of the month. Jan Sittel, who was a junior in high school in 1963, waited to see President Kennedy at Dallas Love Field for the arrival of Air Force One. Sittel shook hands with the Kennedys and the Johnsons along the fence line shortly after Air Force One landed in Dallas. Sittel later donated to the Museum her cardboard welcome sign from Love Field, which is featured in the special “Two Days in Texas” exhibition. #livinghistory #jfkassassination #eyewitness

#onthisday, May 29, 1917, the future President of the United States John F. Kennedy was born in Massachusetts. In 1962 a gala celebrating his birthday was held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Martha Tiller, a CBS Television employee at the time-- attended the gala. In June of 2019 she recorded an oral history with our Curator and donated her ticket to the gala to the Museum, it's now part of our nearly 95,000 object collection. Here's an excerpt of her recording.

We are sorry to learn of the passing of noted forensic pathologist, consultant and author Dr. Cyril Wecht at the age of 93. Dr. Wecht began researching the Kennedy assassination in 1965 and served on the forensic pathology panel for the House Select Committee on Assassinations in the 1970s. He later was a consultant on Oliver Stone’s 1991 film, JFK. A colorful and outspoken critic of the Warren Commission investigation, he recorded an oral history with our Museum in 2016. We were honored to invite him back to the Museum for this program in 2017. He sure made things exciting! Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Did you know not all videos have auto-translations into other languages via Google? Neither did we! We're working on having Spanish subtitles added to our content, and this Parkland Trauma Room One Reunion program from 2013 is the first of several that need subtitles added.
