Because YouTube has gone downhill and doesnāt care about its creators, I had to delete āZahra Hates Foster the Peopleā.
Hereās what is happening (and this isnāt just about a video being demonetized).
It has been a long time since any of our videos have exceeded 100,000 views (that vid had 216,000 when I deleted it today). The first couple years were great before the algorithm was changed. Now, videos are suggested based on the algorithm and how it can precisely control their profits, rather than the quality of the video.
From the second that video was uploaded, it was demonetized for us, and 100% of ad revenue was allocated to YouTube and Sony Music, since a song they license was playing in it. Even though I took the video of my cat with my record player and my record, Sony Music gets 100% of ad revenue.
It would be different if that video had a similar amount of views as others, and I could understand it being PARTIALLY demonetized, not 100%, though.
Looking at analytics, as of when i uploaded that video, it immediately began funneling away āsuggestedā views from videos that we make any revenue on strictly to those that Sony Music does.
Now hereās whatās worse.. YouTube not only made that video take off (over 200,000 views), they also stopped suggesting EVERY SINGLE VIDEO that supported us- income that helps with bills and basic necessities so that a huge corporation (YouTube and Sony Music) can profit off my channel instead. Weāve lost over $600 in revenue since this (from OTHER videos). That was dependable income that was used for cat food, litter, vet bills, and other necessities.
YouTube is not what it used to be. Iām sorry to say but this may be the beginning of the end for us being on this greedy platform. Iām exploring other options as well.
