The first in a series of written essays.
It's been a year and a half since I released Bo Burnham vs. Jeff Bezos. I had important realizations about the internet and I like to imagine moved the needle forward slightly in our ability to think about it coherently. Since then I have been calcifying those thoughts into tangible arguments and clear convictions.
The video I am making currently expresses some of these convictions, but I'm also feeling slightly limited in the video medium. Some thoughts are ceasing to fit it. So I'm going to be using writing too.

My Subjectivity In Art video has been age restricted since its release, stunting its growth and preventing a lot of people from seeing it.
I've really wracked my brain on this and the only thing I can conceive of as being the cause of this is a 2 second clip of a man's blurred butt from Everything Everywhere All At Once around the 39 minute mark.
I tried editing these few seconds out with the Youtube editor twice, and each time the video has had to re-Process for an extremely painful 24+ hours. Both times after the excruciating Processing is finally completed, the video is unchanged, my edits have done nothing.
So. I'm very upset and tired and I don't really know what to say. Making this took a lot of work and I just want it to be over so I can see people's interpretations and move on.
I guess I'm gonna just try to edit it again and wait for Youtube to maybe actually do it one of these times. If I appeal it before the man's blurred butt is edited out and the appeal is rejected then the video is damned to Age Restriction Demonetization hell potentially forever.
I don't want to re-upload, I don't want the vid to start from scratch, if I just have to suffer for a week before the restrictions are lifted then I'd rather do that then confuse the release of the thing with a double start, I think it's cool I can do 100k views in a few days even with only 18+ viewers. I'm glad some people are seeing it and I'm glad it's done, I'm fine with it slowly climbing instead of getting its proper release. I just can't stand this herculean effort being rewarded with a messy, stupid automated bureaucratic awkward dumb fucking release barricade, where the only thing I can do is wait around for this website's editor to conceive of potentially doing the only thing it's supposed to do in between it's busy schedule of protecting the children from 90 minute aesthetic philosophy essays.
I'm sorry to people who want to see it who haven't. I just tried to edit it again. It's "Processing". I have no idea how long it will take. I'm not optimistic. Just trying to keep doing the Next Best Thing.

Youtube age restricted and demonetized my Rick & Morty video, because talking about a television show rated TV-14 is inappropriate for 14 year olds.
So 2 months of work and 2 hours of content is earning me approximately $0 and will not be seen by as many as it would uninhibited.
RIP. Hope I didn’t say anything useful in this one.

They denied my appeal to lift the restrictions in minutes. Can’t appeal a restriction twice, that’s policy. This property is effectively and irreversibly leashed.
