The Chapel Choir of Downing College, Cambridge, sings Evensong on Sundays during term-time at 6pm in the College Chapel, as well as Choral Compline twice a term. Its members are made up of Choral Scholars and volunteers from Downing, and volunteers from across the University.
Downing is unique in Cambridge in that the entirety of the direction, accompaniment and administration of the Choir rests on the shoulders of the Organ Scholars, providing an unparalleled opportunity to experience fully the management of a liturgical choir. Former Organ Scholars have gone on to leading positions in English Cathedrals and elsewhere (e.g. Martin Baker - Westminster Cathedral, Ben Saunders - Leeds Cathedral), as well as a host of other non-musical careers.
Besides duties in the College Chapel, the Choir also undertakes cathedral visits and gives concerts further afield, as well as an international tour every year.
