COL Rick Parsons, commander, 33rd Fighter Wing, secures his safety belt in the cockpit of an F-15C as he prepares to deploy to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield, 1990.

A 1966 Air Force Academy graduate, Parsons served two tours in Vietnam, flying F-4 Phantoms, before deploying to the Persian Gulf as an "Eagle Driver." He amassed more than 5,000 flight hours over a 26-year career. After retiring as a Colonel in 1992, Rick began a second career as a Certified Financial Advisor in Monument, Colorado. He passed away on May 25, 2021.

Captain Larry Blair (right), the commanding officer of Charlie Company, 1st Engineer Battalion. โ€œDuring the year that I was company commander,โ€ said Larry, โ€œwe were converted to infantry THREE times.โ€ As part of their doctrinal mission, combat engineers were expected to fight as provisional infantrymen. These impromptu missions could vary in size and scope, but they were typically defensive in nature....such as guarding firebases or setting up blocking positions.
