In the shocking turn of events, it was revealed that the police violated Lee Sun Gyun’s rights. The late actor’s legal team formally asked the police to keep the summons for questioning private and not to share them with the media. The police ignored his request and when asked about it, they claimed that there was no request made and that the police would accept it if Sun Gyun’s legal team made it again. They did request it the second time and when asked why it was rejected, the police responded with “it is difficult”.
Due to these revelations, it seems like the police were trying to make a spectacle out of Lee Sun Gyun and violated his rights. A person under investigation is not obliged to get photographed or recorded during the police investigation. Not to mention that as per Korean law, a person under investigation should in no way be forced or pressured to have contact with the media. What’s more, information from all Lee Sun Gyun’s questioning sessions has been repeatedly leaked to the media, which is also illegal.
People pointed out that if the police wanted to have the investigation public, they should have also exposed the name of the woman who had been blackmailing Lee Sun Gyun and who supposedly provided the substances for him.
Shockingly, Yoo Ah In’s request for a private summons was also rejected by the police in May earlier this year which led to Yoo Ah In getting physically attacked by people in front of the court.
We sincerely hope that the police will apologize to Lee Sun Gyun’s family for their misconduct and that South Korea will finally learn from another tragic incident. And hopefully, Lee Sun Gyun’s family will take legal action against these unlawful tactics.

After today's tragic event, the public turned against the Incheon police and accused them of using illegal tactics to further harm Sun Gyun's image. Just a day before, Lee Sun Gyun was questioned for 19 hours straight and he was treated like the worst criminal, when in fact he was only being investigated for illegal susbtance use and all his tests came out negative. The actor asked for the lie detector test, but unfortunately, he made up his mind to take his own life this morning.
TV Chosun revealed the content of Lee Sun Gyun's farewell letter to his wife. In the letter, the late actor apologizes to his agency for causing them to lose so much money and he also wrote to his wife: "There's nothing that can be done. This is the only way."
We hope that Sun Gyun's family will get through this difficult time and our thoughts are with his wife and children.

The police confirmed that Lee Sun Gyun passed away earlier this morning.
Lee Sun Gyun had been under police investigation for a couple of months now as he was accused of using illegal substances. During the investigation, Sun Gyun admitted to taking them but claimed he did so unknowingly. He also continued to claim that he was being blackmailed by the people who gave him those illegal substances. On December 27th at 10:12 AM, the police received a call from Sun Gyun's wife to report that he left the house after writing a note similar to a will. At 10:30 AM, the police found his car and Sun Gyun was no longer conscious.
Sun Gyun was famous for his roles in the Oscar-winning movie "Parasite" and one of the best-known K-Dramas "My Mister". Despite his controversy, he will be remembered as a great talent and an amazing actor.
