The Word Cracker is a multi sensory set of resources designed for teaching spelling, reading, grammar and vocabulary through morphology. Morphology has a strong evidence base in learning difficulties literature and is seen as the missing piece in literacy instruction. Originally designed for students with dyslexia, who struggle with identifying syllable and morphemic boundaries in words, The Word Cracker highlights these boundaries, giving students greater insight into the meaningful components of words and allowing for easier phonic blending, decoding and encoding. Students can easily manipulate the morpheme magnets, which reduces cognitive load and allows them to give full attention to how words build up, break down and how spelling rules and grammar apply to words.
