What is the biggest organ on the body?
It’s the skin!

What is one of the hardest things to color?
It’s the skin… 😰

Choose the wrong color and your character suddenly looks like they were badly sunburnt.

Get scared and choose to add less shadows? Then your character ends up looking pale.

Make coloring in skin tones much easier with the Copics Sketch Skin Tone Set!

The caps on these alcohol markers are color accurate so you never have to be worried that you’re making the wrong decision 😉

Do you need 100 colors to start painting with watercolors?
Or just 3 colors?

The beauty of watercolor lies in how free and flexible you can be when painting with them.
The transparency and soft gradients lets you layer your colors and decide how dark or how light a color will be.

With just 3 colors, you can already paint a full illustration like @waterlemoon_ !
Using good technique and planning, they created this ethereal watercolor painting.

You DON’T need 100 colors to paint.
Just a little bit of bravery and sprinkle of creativity 🌈

Will you be brave and take the first step towards improving your art?

“Why not just take a picture?”
You hear that all the time when someone sees you painting from a reference picture or even in real life.

Nakakainis di ba?
And it also feels pretty discouraging

A BIG MISTAKE new artists make is being stumped by that sentence!
They end up believing that using references are bad and everything needs to come from their imagination.

But your imagination isn’t perfect and it’s how you end up with a weird-looking tree.

Take this assignment by our Watercolor student Cath Asuncio as a good example.
She used a stunning photo for her reference but she let her own style and personality mix in into this delightful watercolor piece.

Art is about expressing your imagination into paper and for a lot of watercolor artists, just taking a picture isn’t enough.

Will you just take a picture or will you let your imagination run free?

Sunflowers face the sun,
And like a sunflower, choose to face the goodness in life too.

If you’re tired from your 9-to-5 job, from planning every meal at home,

Take a break and go back to what makes you happy.

Life’s challenges are a lot and you can’t avoid it. But no matter how hard the day was, how tiring your whole week felt, how busy the month has been…

It isn’t impossible to take a break.

Take this time to relax and do something that nourishes your creative soul.
Get your watercolor sets and brushes and paint the worries away!

Feeling down in the dumps? How’s your art journey going?

Maybe you haven’t seen any progress this week and you’re stuck at the same slump since last month.

If you’ve been drawing for years trying to improve and you’re still not satisfied with your art, we know how frustrating and discouraging that can be.

You can continue hating the art you do, wishing you were better and hoping your work looks better next time.

Or you can rejoice in what you do.

“To Rejoice is a Choice” Yes, maybe you think you still suck at your drawings, maybe they don’t look as good as what you want them to be.

But to appreciate them and the effort you put in is a choice you can make.

To enjoy art, to create without any pressure to be the best,
Is a choice you can always make.

And we hope you make that choice.

So you bought your newest gouache set.
And after a year of not using it….

IT GREW MOLD!!!

If this is your first time seeing this, surprise, surprise-
yes, it happens.

And you might think, “Well it’s not that bad, just scrape off the mold and use it like new!”

NO!!!

Don't use it anymore!

What happens if you use moldy gouache?
🤢 you can inhale mold spores which will make you sick
🤢 your paints will lose their shine
🤢 your painting will have weird lumps
🤢 and they might grow mold! (yuckkkk)

So don’t ever use it again.

Here’s what you should do instead 😉

☑️ Throw out the affected pans. If the entire set is contaminated, throw away EVERYTHING.
☑️ Sanitize and clean your brushes, workstation,. and your hands!
☑️ Mix and agitate your paints every week
☑️ Let them dry a bit before storing
☑️ Use the Miya Himi Moisturized Mildew Gouache Spray

Always remember to take care of your paints!

Even when you don’t paint often, just give your gouache a stir once in a while or use the Miya Himi mildew spray 💦
It moisturizes your paints and keeps it ready for use 😉
