Everyone talks about MrBeast or Ryan Trahan when it comes to the titans of YouTube.

But honestly, that's been talked about to death.

We need to look at other creators who are doing it just as well or, in some cases, better.

Therefore, I want us to look at Mark Rober. He made what I consider a perfect YouTube video.

I break it down on ‪@digspaghetti‬

EXPERIMENT!

I work towards becoming the best editor and creative I can be when I simply sit down and experiment, and I often use different music tracks to find something unique.

It's genuinely crazy how much a good music track can fundamentally change the quality and experience of your content, so it's worth experimenting in finding the right one.

You can find the right one on LICKD, which has over 1 million mainstream songs as well as 100k+ stock tracks, which gives an overwhelming amount of opportunity to experiment and make something completely unique.

Go take a peek in LICKD, and experiment - go.lickd.co/HillierSmithcp9

SOUND DESIGN!

One of the scariest parts of filmmaking and, thus, the most neglected.

However as I've said multiple times, when we’re watching film we see more with our ears than with our eyes, which means you have to make what your audiences hear beautiful.

The cheeky way I do that, is with music, and GOOD MUSIC, the music you hear on Spotify, mainstream music.

It’s bloody crazy that you can now license mainstream music in your content using LICKD and be protected from copyright claims, if there’s a mainstream artist you’re listening to a lot, there’s a chance you can license them in your video.

Sign up today via my link to receive 50% off your first mainstream track and 14 days free stock music: go.lickd.co/HillierSmithcp8

3 years ago I shot a movie, edited it, and buried it.

I couldn’t get the soundtrack to work, there was a few mainstream tracks I needed but couldn’t license it at the time.

Obviously, I’m setting up me mentioning LICKD here, we forget how brand new it is, and it’s been able to make me license mainstream music like AJR, Macklemore, Oliver Tree and even some classics like Billy Ocean into my movie. Now my movie feels like something you would see on TV, not just YouTube.

I've edited a short film and a trailer for it.

Would you want to see the trailer first OR the video of me figuring out the editing of the trailer first?

Little sentimental here.

Logan Paul’s 99 Originals series was the last content I edited with Logan before I handed off to his new editor Gio, and I wanted to create a style that was memorable and nostalgic, so I used classic mainstream tracks like “Gold” by Spandau Ballet and when I needed to go psychedelic I used “Spaceman Came Travelling” by Chris De Burgh

These are all HUGE mainstream tracks, which used to be a nightmare to license in a YouTube video….used to be…

LICKD is the tool to make licensing mainstream music accessible in your videos AND while keeping your monetisation, no rev share split or anything, you buy the license, and you have the rights!

Because of their 1 million mainstream tracks ready to license, You might find a mainstream song you’ve always wanted use, go take a peek on in LICKD and get 50% off your first mainstream track and 14 days of free stock music via the link below.

Hey Hillionares, should I call you that? I'm not sure...

On ‪@EditingPodcast‬ I had the incredible privilege of having a conversation with the editor of one of the best movies of this year, Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse

It's a deep episode, so take your time watching it.

Micheal Andrews showed us

- A Breakdown of the opening sequence.
- Why Gwen had the first 20 minutes.
- Debated whether the cliffhanger ending worked.
- Discovered the iterative nature of the editing process.
- Why there are multiple versions of the movie.
- Discussed the reasons behind having three directors.
- Broke down the editing of the train chase sequence.
- How he improved the action by adding more character

It's the most mindblowing piece of content I've made this year, if you haven't subscribed to TheEditingPodcast yet, you should.

Back in the mid-2000s (Yes I’m old), when I first started filmmaking I used movie soundtracks in my content, and obviously, they got copyright claimed.

I really wanted Hollywood's high-quality music and use it on YouTube.

LICKD wants the same, they’re expanding the mainstream music library to movie soundtracks, on top of their already 1m+ mainstream library. This means you can license recognisable music to elevate your content AND be protected from copyright claims and demonetisation

Right now they have Lord of the Rings, EEAAO, Black Adam and Barbie, and I asked them to bring us more…

Go take a peek in LICKD and expertly soundtrack your content, they’re offering 50% off your first mainstream track and 14 days free stock music via my link:
