The Guelder Rose. Viburnum opulus in full swing in my meadow. Look at those red juices berries! 🥰🥰🥰🌲🥷🤘 I may harvest a few for a tart jelly I’m planning on making this weekend.
This shrub is a wonder shrub. An often overlooked or snubbed shrub! But not only are they great value for money but they offer wildlife a haven for nearly 10 months of the year. Whether it’s leaf cutter bees. Pollen for insects. Nectar for honey bees. Berries for birds (and Ninjas) it’s an excellent doer in the garden.
I’ve managed to sneak a load into my Garden Rescue designs over the years too! 🤘😜🎉

This red hot bed uses succession planting so that when one plant finishes another takes over. I think again a lot of people find this principle overwhelming or complicated. But it’s not. Maybe I should do a video on it? What do you reckon Ninjas?

Welcome newly mated Queen of my apiary! What a beauty. I didn’t have the heart to pick her off and mark her. I’ll do that maybe next week once my confidence is ready to! 🥰🥷🐝🤘😂
But this does mean one thing. I’ve not got two definitely mated and healthy hives. Queenright is the term. 🐝
Now the the bad news. The other two hives are Queenless. So I’ve popped in a frame of brood in both from the healthy hives.
Even worse news. The piping queen you heard either absconded or was killed for some reason. Hence queenless hive. (THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF BEE KEEPING!!) 😂🌱🐝😩
All in all. A great set of learnings this year. So hopefully next year. In year 4. We will have less swarming. More productive bees. An easier ride!

How utterly gorgeous is this planting combo. Verbascum chaixii and Allium sphaerocephalon (Drumstick Allium). Both love full sun and dry conditions. 🥷🌿🥰🌞
Spotted on my travels around Scotland this weekend. Definitely a combo to dry out in my next dry garden design!
People often overlook dry gardens but they can be really tricky to plant up and design with. Luckily there are loads of dry abuse tolerant plants for gravel dry gardens. It makes a change from heavy clay!
