Hello Diane, I hope your Saturday is going well. There were a lot of these type bands that came out at the beginning of the 90s. Mostly they were labeled as Alternative, or Grunge. Seattle, Washington, was where a lot of these bands were originating from at the time.

The Foo's were Grunge. While a still "dark" genre, grunge was distinct in both its attire and sound.
